THE MOST PROMISING INOSITOL COMPOUND FOR PCOS

Based on what recent researches show D-Chiro-inositol is the most promising compound for the treatment of PCOS.

The success of D-Chiro-inositol in the treatment of Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome has been linked to the effects of DCI in the insulin resistance. According to La Marca A., Grisendi V., Dondi G., Sighinolfi and Cianci A, in their research The menstrual cycle regularization following D-chiro-inositol treatment in PCOS women: a retrospective study” published in PubMed with ID 25268566 The effectiveness of D-chiro-inositol (DCI) treatment in improving insulin resistance in PCOS patients has been confirmed in several reports“. In another research Effects of d-chiro-inositol in lean women with the polycystic ovary syndrome” conducted by Iuorno, MJ, Jakubowicz DJ, Baillargeon JP, Dillon P, Gunn RD, Allan G and Nestler JE and published in PubMed with ID 15251831, the authors conclude that “in lean women with the polycystic ovary syndrome, D-chiro-inositol reduces circulating insulin, decreases serum androgens, and ameliorates some of the metabolic abnormalities (increased blood pressure and hypertriglyceridemia) of syndrome X”.

Most of us get the inositol that we need from the food we eat and convert into DCI the amount required by our body. Women with PCOS have difficulties making this conversion resulting in insulin resistance. Or it can happens that women with PCOS convert inositol into DCI properly but then excrete it too easily resulting in the same problem that the no conversion. The main problem derived of the lack of DCI for women with PCOS is that testosterone is released in big amounts leading to loss of hair, growth of unwanted hair in the body, acne, masculine adipose distribution, disrupted or absence of menstrual cycle and infertility. In these cases, a supplement of DCI can help to cover this deficiency. As Galazis N., Galazi M and Atiomo W. show in the results of their research D-Chiro-inositol and its significance in polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review” published in PubMed with ID 21142777 “DCI administration had beneficial effects on ovulation, anthropometric and metabolic markers in PCOS women by enhancing insulin”.

Because of the hormonal imbalance linked to PCOS ovarian dysfunction is always an issue for women affected by the Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome. These women suffer as a symptom of their condition anovulation, meaning that their eggs never became mature and released. This leads to polycystic ovaries (hence de name), the cyst formed in the ovaries are actually eggs stuck in the follicular phase. All of this translate into infertility problems, a big concern for many women with PCOS. According to the research Evaluation of ovarian function and metabolic factors in women affected by polycystic ovary syndrome after treatment with D-Chiro-Inositol” by Laganà AS, Barbaro L y Pizzo A, published at PubMed with ID 25416201 “D-Chiro-Inositol is effective in improving ovarian function and metabolism of patients affected by PCOS”.

Even though more clinical trials and researches need to be done on the subject, D-Chiro-inositol seems to be the most promising inositol for the treatment of this condition suffered by so many women.
